Senior Solutions Engineer and Sustainability Ambassador
Cloud and AI - EMEA
Fausto Vaninetti is a senior Solutions Engineer for data center technologies at Cisco Systems. With over 30 years of experience in the ICT sector, his primary focus is on storage networking, datacenter optical interconnection, unified computing, converged architectures and sustainability.
Considered a mesmerizing speaker, he has been invited to present at several events including CiscoLive, EMC World, IBM STGU, DC Summit, Datacenter Nations, etc. He also authored or contributed to several whitepapers, blogs and books on Cisco technologies. He is currently part of Cisco EMEA Cloud and AI technical sales organization and based off the Milan office, Italy.
Before joining Cisco, he was a Research and Development engineer on optical components and DWDM platforms at Pirelli Optical Systems. He has also been serving as secretary and director board member at SNIA EMEA organization. Fausto holds a master’s degree in electronic engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Milan.
Because enterprises continue to rely on mainframes to power their most critical workloads, having a robust and efficient storage networking solution is more important than ever. The Cisco MDS 9000 Series is newly z17 qualified, includes expanded FICON support, and is perfectly positioned to meet the needs of modern mainframe environments.
The transceiver power-control feature within Cisco MDS 9000 switches contributes to the broader goal of creating more environmentally responsible and cost-effective data center operations.
Cisco MDS 9000 switches deliver an unmatched security posture for storage area networks, including quantum-resistant encryption, and are differentiated by advanced ASIC design, superior hardware architecture, and sophisticated software control.
Cisco supports the design and implementation of high-speed Fibre Channel fabrics, leading a change to the traditional FSPF link cost calculation for 128 Gbps serial interfaces due to the Cisco-only capability to create logical links with up to 16 members.
New trends in datacenter networking, and uncertainties on the data-dependent compression ratio, are clearly suggesting that 25G FCIP is the best approach to address remote data replication needs. Cisco MDS 9220i is what you need for your high-performance and secure SAN extension projects.
Cisco MDS 9000 Series provides all necessary capabilities to eliminate the noisy neighbor syndrome at the storage network level. By combining proper network design with high-speed links, congestion avoidance techniques such as DIRL, slow drain analysis and SAN Insights, IT administrators can deliver an optimal data access solution on a shared network infrastructure.
The joint adoption of Cisco UCS compute systems and Cisco MDS 9000 Series of storage networking switches provides a significant benefit to the enterprise: advanced design options, easier management and better support.
Current sustainability efforts require power-efficient solutions that can deliver more bandwidth at a reduced wattage. Cisco recently introduced 48 ports on the Cisco MDS 9700 64-Gbps Fibre Channel Switching Module, a real technological breakthrough. Increased bandwidth, combined with approximately 40% decrease in power consumption makes it about 7 times more power efficient than its predecessor.
